Draughts or cold spots
Draughts around your window usually means the seals have deteriorated over time. When seals aren’t as strong as they once were, air can seep through the gaps.

Not only does this impact the comfort of your home, it can impact your energy bills. If heat is escaping through your closed windows, you’ll need the heating on for longer to heat your home.
Difficulty opening or closing windows
Temperature fluctuations and moisture levels can cause windows (and doors) to warp or swell, causing mobility issues. This can mean your they don’t fit snug in their frame, causing you issues when trying to open or close them.
Not being able to close your windows is not only inconvenient and can cause damp if rain gets in, it can also leave your home vulnerable to intruders.
Condensation between the panes
It can be normal for windows to have condensation, especially during the colder months. It’s caused by the difference between the warm air inside and the surface of the panes.
This can sometimes even be a sign your windows are doing their job – preventing heat transfer will mean there’s a bigger temperature difference between inside and out.
However, it’s a problem if you see this in-between the panes. This indicates a problem with the seal. A replacement isn’t always necessary in this case – but if your windows are getting older, it could be a good reason to.
